6. My Neighbors - I live in a city. So getting to know you neighbors is really impossibly tricky but I MUST share this anecdote. On Friday, I was bringing the dogs in when a very young mother and her 2 sons stopped me. The oldest must have been around 6 and the youngest around 3 or 4. The boys were asking me all these questions about my dogs (particularly Jackson who's big and a bit intimidating). Once they found out my boys were big teddy bears, they were petting and hugging and holding them. Then the mother said it was time to go. All the little men said goodbye and I heard the youngest boy say "Goodbye ma'm." The mother stopped dead in her tracks and said ... "She's a miss ... don't ever call a miss a ma'm. It's just insulting" That boy will make a fine husband one day!
5. Work - As odd as it sounds, work is controllable and mildly predictable. Therefore, getting lost within it has been a much needed and necessary release.
4. Puppies - I'm not going to lie ... nothing puts a smile on my face quite like Sammy and Jackson! Therefore, having them to snuggle with just makes the day ... better.
3. Old Classics - I have been scouring my bookshelves for old classics that I love. Recently I have reread Summer Sisters - by Judi Bloom, Water for Elephants, The Great Gatsby and am in the middle of Wuthering Heights. There is something about the familiarity of these literary treats that makes me smile.
2. Daily Phone Calls - Now that the wedding countdown is precariously close, I talk to my mom, my sister, my future sister in law, my future mother in law and my bridesmaids SO REGULARLY. Not that that's unusual but often we get too caught up in life to notice that our phone conversations have waned. Not anymore!
1. B - B is surprisingly calm. His usually overactive nerves have been on standstill. For instance, yesterday when I chucked a cd at our wall because it wouldn't burn ... he calmly removed the computer from my risky reach and put me in time out. The words "other half" have never had more meaning.
Anyway the likelihood of a post from now until June 26th is unlikely! But, as this is my sort of journal, I wanted to share my excitement and nerves per-Sherman. XoXo, Katie
