Every since I can remember (and likely before I was born) ... my sister was obsessed with The Wizard of Oz. As a child, my Papaw bought her a dog that looked identical to TOTO (the beast could never get fully house trained and ended up living with my grandparents because my dad won't take it!). My mom crafted child sized ruby slippers. A dressed the entire part (including gingham way before it was fashionable, pigtails and socks with heels). As an adult, she still loves the flick! She even danced with my dad to "Somewhere over the Rainbow" at her nuptials. I recently read that Dorothy and the gang are celebrating their 70th anniversary. I'm shocked that the film is so old (though it's a growing testament to the power of a classic). Theaters all over Chicago are reshowing the movie in honor of its prestigious birthday. I might have to go for sentimentalities sake!
